LET’S TALK OXIDATION……
Ever ended up on a night out and looked in bathroom mirror and felt like an Oompa Lumpa…
At a wedding and thought … I HAVE BEEN TANGOED !!!
Well if this has ever happened to you and you haven’t a clue WHY…READ ON .
WHAT IS OXIDATION ?
Oxidation is basically a chemical reaction between your makeup and the air. When oxygen comes in contact with skin, food or cosmetics it can oxidise causing the product to turn a brown or worse orange shade.
Best example, do you know when you cut an apple in half and after a few mins it starts to turn brown…this is OXIDATION!!!
It is the same thing in foundation, once applied after a period of time some foundations can oxidise depending on three factors the ingredients in the foundation, the ph balance of your skin and lastly if air had got to the bottle or tube.
HOW TO PREVENT ??
A couple things can be done to prevent this from happening, firstly make sure your foundation is closed properly, next check the ingredients in your foundation, the more antioxidants in the foundation the better as antioxidants fight free radicals which cause oxidation and lastly USE A PRIMER, primer adds a layer between your skin and makeup which can help to prevent the ph balance of your skin from affecting the foundation.
WORST FOUNDATIONS FOR OXIDATION (only my opinion)
NYX Professional Makeup Can’t Stop Won’t Stop
Too Faced Cosmetics Born this way
Urban Decay Cosmetics All Nighter
Hope you found this information helpful !!!! As always open to any and all questions you may have !!!!
So, what exactly is Banana powder???
Banana powder is a finely milled translucent setting powder with a hint of yellow to it. Because of the slight yellow tone, it works well to set concealer under the eyes. The most common use of the banana powder is as a contour powder, highlighting under the eyes and in the T-zone.
There are many benefits to this beautiful nearly translucent powder. Firstly, because of its yellow tone it counteracts any redness on the skin and really brightens the under eye area. Banana powder can also be used to highlight the skin and provide a flawless dewy finish to foundation. As contouring has evolved over the last number of years , ‘baking ‘ your makeup has become a MUST do for all those makeup addicts out there. Banana powder is the ideal fine , translucent powder which can be used to bake your face.
Why I love banana powder…
I have major dark circles under my eyes ( from child raring and no sleep for the last seven years) and whilst I LOVE my concealer , banana powder completes the process of ridding those dark circles and also setting the concealer with the powder avoids the opportunity for the liquid to crease and sit in fine wrinkles around the eye.
Back in 2015 when Kimmy made banana powder a household name Ben Nye cosmetics was the only brand that was producing this powder and couldn’t even be purchased Ireland. W7 followed , creating a ‘dupe’ of the Ben Nye product but since every main cosmetic contender has developed a banana powder.
My favourites would have to be from Anastasia Beverly Hills, NYX and Penney’s brand PS has also launched a banana powder for just €4.00.

On your wedding day looking your best is the most important factor of the day when you are the bride, this can leave you feeling overwhelmed and put alot of pressure on you.
For this reason, bridal trials are vitally important!!! But what if you don’t know what to use ? Style? Finished look? How do I explain what I want? These are all questions every bride has and to be honest most brides don’t really know exactly what they want, just that they need to look their best. So, what should you expect or accomplish in bridal trial?
Firstly, when I get a bride booking in for her trial, I recommend that if at all possible have something planned for that evening, maybe if you are going to event or even night/ dinner out. It will help you to see how the makeup lasts and wears for a whole day and night. Final touches can always be changed to the ‘bridal’ makeup so that you are not showing everyone your wedding day makeup.
Bridal Trial Tips
Most brides will have scoured, looking for the perfect look, this is great but remember, these photos are more than likely filtered and photo shopped , they may not have some colouring or facial characteristics…. SO, choose several pictures, choose pics of eyes you like, skin, foundation, blusher etc. I also recommend that you have a picture of how you look everyday and then going out , to function , wedding etc. Your bridal look should be a happy medium of day and night look. Something that will carry well and photograph beautifully in the daylight but strong enough to carry you into the night.
When you arrive for your trial, time should be spent having a conversation with your MUA, especially if you do not know each other. Your makeup artist needs to get an idea of your personality and natural flair. Things you should be discussing:
*Foundation: Matte(flat, no shine, some women with oily tendencies prefer) or dewy ( soft, natural finish with a glow)
*Style: Natural, vintage, romantic, smokey
*Lips: Nude tones, pinks or reds
*Personal Style: Do you wear makeup everyday ? Do you like smokey eye? Are you a less is more type of girl? This is always key in my opinion because if you never wear makeup, do not over do it because its your wedding day. If you wear black eyeliner and a smokey eye everyday , then you need to incorporate this into your bridal look.
Once you get started and your trial makeup is complete, always be honest with your makeup artist, a trial is about ‘trying’, a small change such as a lip colour can change your look from something you are unsure of to something you are in LOVE with. Where the makeup for the day and night, take loads of pictures. Look back on them and give your feedback to your MUA.
The most important part of all is to remember YOU are YOU and that is what makes you BEAUTIFUL!!! What you artist should be helping you to achieve is to look the best version of yourself, so if you love your eyes make them your focus, beautiful cheeks bones really accentuate them and put a lovely blush of colour on cheeks.

Loads of people have been asking me in the classes about what to use to clean brushes and how often should you clean them….
Make up tools
Firstly, I wash my makeup brushes weekly , but I also use my brushes far more than most…so my suggestion, at least once a month if not once every two weeks.
As far as what to use, don’t waste your money on special brush cleaning products, a small bit of baby shampoo should suffice.
I have been using the Inglot brush cleaner, I find it works well and was inexpensive.
When washing your brushes follow these quick steps and you will have perfectly clean makeup brushes.
Step 1: Run your brushes through luke warm water , rinsing out an excess makeup.
Step 2: Prepare a bowl of warm water and a little squirt of baby shampoo into a bowl and gently swirl brush around the bowl.
Step 3: Work up the lather into the brush, if you need to work the brush around the palm of your hand.
Step 4: Rinse the brush tips under the running water again, repeat previous steps until the water runs clear from the brushes.
Step 5: Make sure you comb the brushes back into shape , this is important because the shape that the brushes are left in to dry will be the way they stay.
Step 6: Lay a layer of kitchen roll out and lay brushes flat for at least 24 hrs.
